 Bio

Dr. Jeremy Rowe is Director of Research, Strategic Planning and Policy for Information Technology (IT) at ASU, Associate Director of the Institute for Computer, Information Sciences, and Engineering (InCISE) and a Head of Strategic Initiatives for the Decision Theater at Arizona State University (DT).

Dr. Rowe has published in the areas of technology policy, copyright and ownership, digital preservation and electronic records, digital libraries, and modeling and visualization. He serves on several state level committees including the State Chief Information Advisory Council, the Electronic Records Life Cycle subgroup of the Arizona Digital Government Working Group, and Arizona Board of Regents Arizona Regents University/Information Technology Subcommittee and has been actively involved in strategic planning and development of IT policy. Dr. Rowe is a Consultant Evaluator in the Peer Review Corps of the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association, and for their Academic Quality Improvement Project.

As Associate Director of InCISE, Dr. Rowe works to coordinate interdisciplinary university research initiatives involving Computer Science and Informatics, and to precipitate and foster large scale research initiatives. The linkage between Computer Science and Informatics researchers and ASU Information Technology provides a broad base of discipline science, public policy, and educational outreach for the Decision Theater.

Research interests include Informatics and Digital Libraries incorporating 3D data. Current research projects include 3D handwriting, enterprise distributed authentication and authorization, water policy planning, and 3D digital libraries. Dr. Rowe is on the Advisory Board for the Cornell University Library (CUL)/ Museum of Science (MOS) in Boston Printable Digital Machine project. Dr. Rowe has been a CoPI on funded proposals including KDI: 3D Knowledge: Acquisition, Representation, and Analysis in a Distributed Environment (NSF $2.1M), Moving Waters: The Colorado River and the West (NEH $300K), Observations and Modeling of Orographic Cumulus Development using Digital Imaging and Data Cataloguing (NSF $320K) and Decision Center for a Desert City (NSF $6.9M).

Dr. Rowe also researches and writes about historic photography with a specialization on Arizona and the Southwest. He is owner of Jeremy Rowe Vintage Photography (http://vintagephoto.com), and has curated a number of major museum and gallery exhibitions, been a Scholar for the Arizona Humanities Council, and published books, chapters, and articles about photographic history.
